Try and Decide corrupted my bcd file

Thread needs solution

I have 3 bootable versions of windows and I tried 'Try and Decide' on my second partition/loader, not my default version.

The installer failed to enable the app but on reboot I got a blue screen with the options to continue or discard. I selected 'continue'

The system booted up into my default/first loader even though I selected the second.

On viewing the boot manager settings using bcdedit I discovered that the identity of the second loader had been changed to the same as the first.default loader. The net result is that my second installation of windows is inaccessable.

Apart from rebuilding the bcd store, which I am reluctant to do, is there a way of recovering just the bcd store or fix the bcd store?

Mike, welcome to these User Forums.

Sorry but Try & Decide does not play nicely with multi-boot system setups - I found the same issue myself on a dual-boot laptop when I tried it a little while back.

With regards to recovering your BCD configuration, more questions than answers:

Where is your BCD located?
This can be in its own separate partition (Microsoft System Reserved or EFI partition) or else in your primary OS partition.

Do you have either a backup of that partition that you can recover the hidden/system Boot folder from?  Or do you have an export of your BCD configuration from using a utility such as EasyBCD?
