Unable to browse to backups made prior to disk failure

Thread needs solution

I've had a hard disk failure. I was running Acronis 2017 for a year or more and have many backups (tib files) stored on an external hard disk.

I have replaced the bad internal drive and reinstalled Windows 10 (1803 version) and reinstalled Acronis 2017.

I wanted to restore files from my backups made prior to the disk failure, but I can't find a way to get into those backups. I can only access the one backup I've made since I reinstalled Windows and Acronis 2017.

How can I access the backups that were made prior to the disaster?

Thanks for any help from the community.

Ken, welcome to these public User forums.

For your older, existing backups on your external drive, you have two options available to you.

1.  Add the existing backup to the GUI using the option available - look to the right of where it gives you the option to Add a new backup, there should be a 'V' to indicate a menu - open this and take the 'Add existing backup' option shown.

2.  Open Windows Explorer to your backup drive, and double-click on any of the .tib files which will open these and allow you to use normal Copy & Paste commands for the files you want.

Thanks for the quick response to my query.

The first solution worked, but double-clicking a tib file did not open Acronis.

Thanks so much!

Ken, if double-clicking on the .tib file doesn't launch the Acronis to open the file, then you will probably need to do a Repair Install of the software to ensure the correct Windows Shell integration is in place.  A further check in Explorer - if you right-click on a .tib file, you should see as shown in the screen image below:

A repair install is done by reinstalling ATI again over the top of the existing software (without uninstalling first).
