Unable to restart service

Thread needs solution

Hi!

I can't  restart the acronis service and I don't know why....

Result is I can't perform my planned backups.

If I try to restart the service with schedmgr.exe it error message happens:

inst=yes start=no loc task=0-0 > service start
Error: 2 (0x2) - File or reg item not found
inst=yes start=no loc task=0-0 >CopieEcran-1.jpg

Configuration is Windows 10, version 1803, Acronis True Image 2017

No modification at all regarding my configuration since the last correct set of backups (it has been made this afternoon!)

any advice ?

Regards

A couple of suggestions to try here:

  1. Restart the computer using the Start > Restart option so that a full shutdown & restart is performed.
  2. If still an issue, perform a Repair install of ATI 2017.  To do this, download the final full 2017 installation program from your Acronis account, then reinstall this without uninstalling the current software - this will give you a Repair option to use.

Hi Steve!

Thank you very much for your information. I will try them but before just an add to complete my previous post. I did few investigations with my windows configuration.

If I'm looking at Windows services program (services.exe), I notice all Acronis deamons are well running except one:

Acronis Scheduler2 service. Is it normal? Can this be the cause of my problem?

In my Acronis distribution on disk (C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome) I do not have this directory or this program:

Schedule2\schedul2.exe

Is it part of the standard distribution? If so where is it as I did proper install when I ran it a couple of years ago.

thanks in advance

The Scheduler 2 service is required in order for your backups to be run and this is stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis in the Schedule2 folder.

You should also have files in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome folders.

Please check that the Schedule2 program / service is not being blocked by any security software you are using (antivirus etc).

Hi Steve,

thank you for your help

you're right, some of the files are in common files directory I didn't see earlier. So I've got also files in this one including the scheddule2.exe deamon. So my distribution is complete. But if I try to launch the deamon, it stops with error code 2: File or reg item not found

What I suspect is the path is not correct. Problem is y backups have always worked until yesterday afternoon. So I imagine that the path was then correct and the scheduler could run. But not longer... What happened ?

In fact if I check properties of service, path is not correct anymore:

it is: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe"

it should be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe"

So I modify it through regedit ...

Regedit-3.jpg

and the service was able to launch and run the scheduled backups :-)  !

very strange behavior as I never changer the path of the service.... I suspect schedul2.exe utility I've used to stop/start Acronis service to be ... buggy ... I do not see anything else as an explanation

regards

Glad to hear that you have been able to correct the registry entry for the Scheduler 2 service though how / why it was changed is a mystery to me too?  The ATI application is 32-bit hence why the files are in the x86 folder path, so should never be pointed to a 64-bit Program Files path.

I am sure that a Repair install should also have corrected this issue had it been necessary.
