unable to use bootable rescue media...

Thread needs solution

hi!

acronis true image 2017

windows 10 pro 64 bit

When I try to boot from the USB key where acronis software has been generated by the acronis media builder, I've got problems and at the end Acronis software can't be accessed.

what's wrong here?

I follow the manual instructions...

After changing boot sequence through F12, USB key performs few loading and a very very little menu appears (thanks to the 4K display...)

select an item using keyboard:

1 acronis true image 64 bit

2 acronis system report 64 bit

c continue booting

I choose 1 but no acronis true image appears!!! instead of, text lines are displayed:

please wait

loading protecting kernel mode

loading please wait

no block devices found

reading all physical volumes

this may take a while

busybox v20.2.1

#

what's the hell with that?

it's only a prompt and if I try to run a Unix command like ls, I have a tree of files and commands.....???

how to have the acronis software loaded correctly?

thanks in advance

regards

Flamel, welcome to these User Forums.

From the information you have provided, you have created the default, Linux based bootable Rescue Media and you may need to disable Secure Boot in your system BIOS to allow this Linux distribution to boot correctly.

You also need to ensure that you are booting the Rescue Media in the same boot mode as used by your Windows OS, i.e. if Windows boots via UEFI, then you need to select the UEFI option for your USB boot media.

If no devices are being detected by the Rescue Media, then it is probable that the Linux media does not contain the device drivers needed for your computer system.  This can happen if your disk drive(s) are using RAID or are more modern NVMe type devices and your version of the Acronis media is from an older build.  The Linux media does not support RAID devices at all, so you would need to install the Windows ADK and create the alternative WinPE version of the Rescue Media, plus for RAID, would need to inject RAID drivers.  You can do this using the MVP Custom ATIPE builder tool. (See the link to Acronis Community Tools in my signature below).

Thank you very much for your welcome and also for your detailed answer.

Because I see black & white text menu, as consequence I suppose media is booted using UEFI boot... And also as my machine is a new one "out of box" with Windows 10 pre-installed  I think  UEFI boot is the default too..

you're right, my internal disk is an SSD ... Maybe a silly question but how to check the Acronis release?  I know i's the Acronis true image 2017 but not sure to know the release number ....I bought a licence in july 2017...

In Windows, run ATI then select Account and the build number will be displayed. If you are not running the latest build you will be invited to update the current build. If you have 2017 subscription rather than perpetual licence you can update to ATI 2018.

Hi!

thank you...

I read 2017 build 8058.

How to select UEFI option in the media builder ?

regards

The boot option should be shown on your Boot selection panel, i.e. for some systems you can press F12 immediately when booting and it will show a boot device selection list.  Look for your USB device being shown in the list twice, where one of these will also include UEFI in the name or device description.

Example shown below:

Thank you very much Steve. :-)

it works now!

What I did based on your advices:

1 - Change secure boot parameter (from enable to disable) on the BIOS menu through F1 key after reboot.

2 - Downloading and installing MS WinPE  package (ADK & AIK components needed)

3 - Generate a new bootable USB key with the Acronis plugin.

this time my hardware is recognised and Acronis software is launched.

So I can validate the process to reload backups in case of problems...

just last question ... any way to "tune" the resolution of the display used by ATI  when bootable media is used ?

it seems to be VGA actualy .... :-)

Regards

Flamel, now that you have installed the Windows ADK, consider using the MVP Custom ATIPE Builder tool which you can find in the Community Tools area, this is a more flexible media creation tool created by the MVP's and allows you to set the display resolution as you want it.
