Unable to validate backups and do restores

Thread needs solution

What would be causing me to be unable to validate and mount to do some restore?

I have done multiple full/incremental backups to a NAS device.  I re-initialized the hard drive and installed TI 2017 and browsed to the NAS and the backup directory. I see the backups.  I then right click on the backup file (.tib) and select validate and get an error message of the sort:

It is possible that it is "encrypted" (can't remember) but I was never given the option to provide for the password so not sure if that is expected.

David, welcome to these User Forums.

What type of backups are involved here?  Are they of Disks & Partitions, or are they for Files & Folders?

What are you trying to restore here?

You say: "I re-initialized the hard drive and installed TI 2017 and browsed to the NAS and the backup directory."

I assume from the above, that you have also installed Windows in order to install TI 2017 and are using Windows Explorer to browse the NAS folder?

If this is a Disk & Partitions backup on the NAS, what happens if your just try double-clicking on one of your .TIB files shown in Explorer, does it open to show the contents or are you asked to provide a password?

ATI will not automatically encrypt your backup files unless you have set it to do so and have provided a password with which to encrypt the files.  This can happen if you have encrypted another backup and have selected the 'Save as default' setting in the Advanced settings page, which would store the password to use with other new backup tasks that you create.
