Universal Restore (True Image 2017) Does see the OS
Hello All.
I really hope someone will present me with a solution. I just purchased Acronis True Image 2017 with 2yrs subscription. I installed it on my Laptop and Performed a Full Backup. I wanted to test the restore process so I am not surprised when I actually Need to restore from a backup.
I have an ESXi Host server, So I created a VM with similar virtual hardware spec as my laptop. 500GB HD, 16RG RAM 4Core CPU
From my Windows 10 laptop I created a new Universal Restore media and included the vMware drivers, (scsi driver etc).
I tried 2 Scenarios:
1) A VM with blank hard drive, Similar to if I had to restore my system into a new hard drive.
2) A VM with an already installed Windows 10 (same Laptop image from a prior restore using Windows System Image Restore).
Both Scenarios, Acronis Universal Restore showed NO OS found.
Actual msg: Cannot find an operating system on the current machine.
I booted my VM with the Universal Restore boot media, it booted fine. then It showed on the screen "No OS" found. I can browse the Hard drive folder and see the Windows folder... but somehow Universal Restore is not seeing the OS. I am not even why does it need to see the OS?
I want to perform a restore of my entire backup to the Hard drive. I am confused, to say the least; how this supposed to work.
Note: The scenario #2 where the is already an existing Windows 10 Operating System. I simply remove the Acronis Universal Restore media, reboot the OS comes up fine. There is an existing working OS yet, A. U. R. is not seeing it. and for Scenario 1, blank hard drive same thing.
I simply want to use my Backup archive and perform a Restore on a dissimilar hardware... I am now not sure if my laptop hard drive fails and If I use the Restore process of Acronis if it is going to work.
I would appreciate any guidance you may provide. I have attached a screenshot of the Acronis Universal Restore.
Thank you,
Samuel

Samuel, I am not sure that you are understanding how Universal Restore is intended to be used.
In brief, the steps should be as follows:
- Make a full disk & partitions backup image of the source disk drive containing the OS being migrated.
- Make the Acronis bootable Rescue Media on CD or USB.
- Make the Acronis bootable Universal Restore Media on CD or USB.
- Boot the target system from the Acronis bootable Rescue Media and restore the backup image created in step 1. to the target disk drive.
- Shutdown the target system and remove the Acronis Rescue Media and storage drive.
- Boot the target system from the Acronis Universal Restore Media and select the restored Windows OS on the drive where the backup was restored to. All AUR to prepare the OS to work with the different hardware found on the target system.
- Shutdown the target system and remove the AUR media.
- Attempt to boot the target system from the restored / prepared Windows OS and allow time for any new devices to be detected during Windows startup, new device drivers to be installed etc.
