Unusual error messages recently in backups

Thread needs solution

In the last few days, I am getting a lot of errors like the attached example.

There is a clue in the folder path shown in your screen image that this is an issue being encountered by the Microsoft VSS utility which is used to capture a snapshot of your source data for the backup.

I would recommend downloading the Acronis VSS Doctor utility (link in my signature) and run this as Administrator to check for any problems in this area.

The other suggestion here is to run a CHKDSK /F against each partition of your drive(s) to check for any filesystem issues that may be latent.

Finally, please also download the MVP Log Viewer tool to check for any other messages being written in the backup task logs - this can be found via the Community Tools link in my signature.

I did a chkdsk /f and there were no issues.  I ran the VSS Doctor, and everything was ok except for the following:

I'll run the log viewer later and let you know.

 

If this is a MS VSS error as it looks to be, then see KB 59440: Acronis True Image 2017: 'Snapshot for backup' option overview and try using one of the alternative snapshot options for your backup(s) to confirm that the error messages are no longer being given.

Backup fails - 0x40001, 0x40011, 0x40019 and 0xFFF0 - similar issue to yours. 

Iain, the error message shown in your image would seem to suggest that there may be a problem with the actual backup task configuration if this is what you are seeing when you have selected the task in the main GUI then clicked on the Options button at the bottom?

If that is the case, then try taking the 'Clone settings' option and see if this gives you the same or not?  If you get the same error, then can only suggest deleting the task and creating a new task to do the same, but point it to a different destination folder or ensure it has a unique name that is not the same as the original name.

Since my last post, I have installed a new Synology DS216J - which incidentally blows the WDMyCloud out the window - and everything is good except I am getting the exact same error messages as I posted on 09/20 at 18:32 above. 

Always to do with files called '.....\store.jfm'.  When the backup is running, I have to select 'Ignore all' to allow it to complete.

Iain, I guess the real question that needs asking here is why you are attempting to backup files which are in the Volume Shadow Copy folders?  That is assuming that you are still seeing the same file/folder path as in your earlier post that you referenced from 09/20.

Acronis defaults to excluding the System Volume Information folders (where this type of information is stored) so perhaps you have changed that default exclusion?

I don't even know what a Shadow Copy Folder is! All I have done is select my User folder, and another Steam user folder.

I haven't changed the exlusions at all as far as I am aware. See attached for the current setting.Capture.JPG

Iain, you need to have a tick to enable the exclusions shown for files matching the criteria...

Steve, thank you, that did the trick!  However, how does this work when doing a partition or clone backup?  Will True Image backup these ShadowCopy files then?

Iain, you do not need these Shadow Copy files, they are purely temporary and will normally be deleted after the snapshot actions have been performed.

Microsoft now defaults in Windows 10 to leaving System Protection disabled (used for creating restore points) which is also stored in the System Volume Information folder structure, and again, if you are backing up a good working system / partition, then this is excluded by default by ATI and will be recreated automatically by Windows after any recovery, based on your Windows system protection settings.
