This update slowed my computer down.

Thread needs solution

A couple of days ago I downloaded and installed the 2017 version, and since then my computer has been noticebaly slower, particularly when opening windows in desktop explorer. It takes several seconds before the files are displayed.

Task manager shows that Acronis software is active and using more CPU time that you'd expect when not currently backing up files. From a previous experience with the 2015 version, there was a real-time backup option that I had to disable. It was causing all sorts of problems such as locking files I was using. Turning that off solved that problem. I've been trying to see if this feature existed in the 2017 version but hell if I can find anything in the dumbed down menues.

Anyway, I guess two questions.

1. Is real-time backup running, and if so, how do I turn it off?

2. Why else would this software slow down my computer?

Note, I'm using an older, but by no means slow, PC running WinXP.

Thanks, Mike

Mike, welcome to these user forums.

There is no real-time backup running unless you have created such a task, i.e. NonStop Backup or Try & Decide etc.

I would recommend doing a clean install of ATIH 2017, especially if you have had multiple previous versions installed, i.e. you mentioned using 2015, and perhaps you had others besides.

To do a clean install, first uninstall the current version using the Control panel.
Note: You can make a copy of your C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder contents which holds all your current backup task configuration files to restore back later if you wish.

Next, download the Acronis Cleanup Tool from the link in my signature below and run this as Administrator to remove all residual traces of Acronis programs.  If you have the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager or Secure Zone installed, you should deactivate these first.  Restart the computer to complete the cleanup action.

Last, download the full ATIH 2017 build 5554 installer and verify the checksum is good, then install this as Administrator to complete the clean install.
