Using Recovery to move to a larger disk?

Thread needs solution

I'd like to use my regular partition backups of a drive to perform a cloning-like operation to a new, larger, drive.

The process as described in the docs looks straightforward, but I don't see any mention of changing the data partition size to occupy the larger available space.

The existing drive has 3 paritions, an "OEM" partition, a "RECOVERY" partition and an "OS" partition. The existing drive is 500GB, while the new drive is 1TB.

Do I have to do some groundwork before the process, or will the 3rd partition magically be expanded to occupy the remaining space?

I have found that the best way to do what you want is to restore to the new drive then use a partition tool such as Minitool to resize the partitions.

It is a while since I have done this; I cannot remember if you can adjust partion sizes when doing a recovery rather than a clone. But it is definitely easier to do it after the event.
