Very slow disk cloning

Thread needs solution

After resizing partitions on a 750gb disk I decided to clone it to an external disk, via usb. to a disk of the same size which I do every month. This normanly takes 3 to 4 hours at the most. This time it took 9 hours and seemed to be doing it sector by sector. Why so long and can it be speeded up?

Boggy, welcome to these user forums.

Difficult for anyone to advise you on why your clone should be very slow without more information, and in particular, without seeing the log file for the clone action to see what messages may be being posted there?

Download a copy of the Log File Viewer app from the link in my signature below and use this to check the logs.  I am assuming that you are doing this within Windows in the ATIH GUI from your description?

More information on exactly what you are cloning from and to, whether this involves your OS drive or not, which USB standard is involved (2.0 3.0?) etc.

I would also run chkdsk /f /r on the main drive.  After resizing paritions, you may have inadvertently moved bad blocks/sectors that are no longer identified as being such.  If it's defaulting to sector by sector, Acronis is detecting something wrong such as a dirty sector which is forciing it to default to sector by sector.

Thanks for reply. Cloned with other software and only took 3 hours. So will run chkdsk and see if anything shows up.
