VSS shadow storages are misconfigured

Thread needs solution

I installed ATI 2017 on a Gateway Laptop Windows 10 Founders update.  Each backup I tried would stop with message "Failed to back up file or folder \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\harddiskvolumeshadowcopy2\" followed by a filename from the backup.  If I click ignore, the backup finishes with a number of files missed.

I looked on the forums and found some topics. I downloaded the VSS Acronis Doctor, and the VSS Shadow Storages Status says Some VSS shadow storages are misconfigured.  ForVolume: C:\ Allocated: 0 B TargetMaximum: 44GB

After hitting the "Fix issues" button, it says "If you are sure that you understand consequences of these actions and still want to proceed, click Yes."  So it seems like a no-brainer, but of course I don;'t understand the consequences. Any reason not to say "Yes"?

The log also shows some Warnings - Source: Ntfs message: The file system structure on volume c: has now been repaired.  I did not initiate a file system structure repair.  Also many "bad block" errors.  Any suggestions on how to handle them?

Thanking in advance

Rick, I have used the VSS Doctor to repair VSS issues when encountered and have not seen any consequences from doing so, but that has to be your decision to make ultimately.

If you are seeing bad block errors for your disk drive then I would recommend running a CHKDSK /R for each such drive identified.

If you are concerned that you do not have a current full backup of the problem drive, then please see KB 59440: Acronis True Image 2017: 'Snapshot for backup' option overview and try using one of the alternative methods to create a snapshot shown there, i.e. try using 'Acronis snapshot' which does not use the Microsoft VSS function.
