Where has all my storage gone?

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

Just downloaded the trial version of True Image 2017 to test before buying.

I have a 500GB NVMe Samsung SSD 950  which has 380GB + Free.

I backed this up to an external drive and it created the 114GB .tib file

I then ran a validate on this file ( No idea what it does but I presumed it validates the integrity of the file)

Once the validate completed I noticed my 500GB NVMe drive only had 172GB Free what happened to the other 208GB I had before running this?

Yes My backup of the NVMe drive is on an external drive and is showing 114GB which is what what used at the time.

Hope this makes sense to someone

I cant seem to find any logs to even look into?

John, welcome to these user forums.

It is difficult to be able to tell you where the missing 208GB of space has disappeared to or what has consumed it as we only have your description of the issue and no access to your computer to see what is what.

I would suggest using a program like TreeSize Free to check how the data on your 500GB drive is distributed and where the largest amounts are stored and in what format?

Please download a copy of the MVP Log File Viewer to get access to the logs so that you can check what these may show.

Ditto to Steve - Treesize will help narrow down large folders so you can check with it what else is in there.

My wild guess... is that system protection is turned on and sitting at 100% for one reason or another - that would eat up a lot of space if that's the case.
