Why does backing up halve the used space?!

Thread needs solution

Alright, so this is a pretty cool added bonus "feature" that I didn't expect.  I am a new Acronis user.

Tonight I had to do some drive swapping in a couple Toughbooks.  And after finishing, I noticed some oddities.  The used space went down DRAMATICALLY!

The MK1 went from 68.7 GB to 36.1 GB.

The MK5 went from 67.8 GB to 25.2 GB.

I never thought backing up and recovering would be a way to save so much space....  Can anyone explain this?

There are certain things that the application does not include in a backup by default, temp, tmp, files for example and pagefile, hyberfile, swapfile, recovery bin for another.  While it is hard to imagine these items alone accounting 50% of used disk space I suppose it not impossible.

A fresh install of Windows 10 consumes around 20GB as info.

Very hard to imagine that being 50%!  I guessed that was a part of it, but the MK5 install was BRAND NEW.

But we are talking about Panasonic too...  These were individuals installed driver packages, I guess I could see them leaving a LOT of junk behind.  25 GB sounds about right on the nose for that install.
