Windows 10 Creators Update problem

Thread needs solution

Foolishly (again) I opted to upgrade my Win 10 PC with the Windows 10 Creators Update. TI 2017 (8029) after which TI kept refusing to run with the message 'TI has run into a problem and will see if Windows has a solution, needless to say it hadn't so assuming I had done something wrong I uninstalled 8029 and reinstalled, after rebooting a dialogue box came up told me to 'reboot' before running TI, this message came up three times after rebooting so I gave up and restored an image prior to the Windows 10 Creators Update. All running smoothly now. What can I do now to cancel the Creators Update which will be rolling out over the next few weeks

Have I learned my lesson, I hope so.

Thank You for the heads up on this.  Too late, unfortunately...my laptop is upgraded.  Will check TI right now...

OK...I have not tried to run a backup, but the program launches properly...time will tell.  I should do a backup tomorrow...

Backup works on one machine with creators update and fails on another machine with creatore update.

I would definitely recommend opening a Support Case directly with Acronis for any issues with ATIH 2017 and the Creators Update for Windows 10 as this is due to be rolled out world-wide over the next weeks and months!

I upgraded today (backed up first just in case).  My existing Acronis backup sare running fine (so far).

However, VMWare was not - it runs, but all networking in my VM's was messed up.  I ended up having to re-install VMWare for it to properly configure itself and add the virtual drivers into the host OS so they can be used in the VM's.

Keep in mind that these "updates" are full blown OS upgrades that Microsoft is attempting to account for everything, but not likely to happen for all applications.  These updates/upgrades are similar to going from Vista to 7 or 7 to 8.1 - things don't always go smoothly for everyone on the Microsoft side which can impact the apps that it tried to bring over with it.

I'd try a repair install of Acronis and see if that helps or not - it did for me with VMware.

We found another problem with Acronis what is now handled by the Technical Team of Acronis, namely when I want to change the destination, my PC Clone hangs and quit completely. At the other hand we have also a Sony Vaio and on that machine no glitch at all, so it must something altered during the 1703 update. Acronis asked me to send my dump, sys and other files to their site. So I am eargely waiting for their conclusions....

THe strange thing is I can backup, but when I try to change the destination, the program quits...

On my other machine a sony vaio I don't have that problem....

I sent Acronis what they asked me to do, so I am waiting...

Hello Everyone,

We are testing current builds 6116, 8029 and, most importantly, upcoming updates for Acronis True Image, both subscription and non-subscription branches, with Windows 10 Creators. We are trying to cover all the possible use cases and scenarios, and if you want to help us in that - use "Send feedback" form under Help section of Acronis True Image, ideally right after you have noticed any abnormal behavior of Acronis True Image.

Regards,

Slava

You can Uninstall the Creators Update. Head over to tenforums.com to read how.

the same here after creators upgrade(win 10 x64 pro), the backup process shows errors/warnings, ATI couldnt find the several backup locations( several Hard Drives+schedduled backups) , and when from the backup scheme , i try to choose again the same drive for each one of the schedduled backups scheme , ATI

encounters a "force close"

I'd try a repair install and see if it helps.   So far, Acronis is working fine for me.  However, I did have to re-pick the source and destination for each job again - my drive ended up with a new "recovery" parition which changed the disk UUID so had to re-identify them.

That said, so far, these things have been broken for me:

MalwareBytes - it took over as my AV and Windows Defender was disabled.  I had to uninstall, run the MBAM cleanup, reboot, reboot and get Windows Defender configured.  Then run a new MBAM cleanup provided dicrectly by MBAM support because it didn't fully clean the first time, reboot and then reinstall MBAM "clean" again.

VMware - the virtual drivers in the main OS were borked up in the process.  Had to uninstall VMWARE, reboot and reinstall Vmware workstation again - that fixed the issue on the main OS.  However, because of the malwarebytes issue listed above, could not connect to network shares or homegroup.  Once Windows Defender was working on the OS again, I had to leave the homegroup on all machines, reboot all of them, recreate the homegroup with a new password and then I could connect again.

Chrome - it said my extensions were all disabled because another program corrupted it.  I had to log back into Chrome and let it synch again to get all of my extensions and favorites back in Chrome.

MacriumRelfect Free - like Acronis, I had to repick the sources again because of the change to the disk with the extra recovery partitions.  I actually ended up using Minitool Parition Wizard Free to delete the old recovery, move the free space back to the C: drive.  FYI, my new recovery parition is at the end of the drive now (I leave free space at the very end so that recovery can grow in the future and just for general SSD health).

I'm sure all of us early adopters will be dealing with some of these issues for at least a few weeks (maybe months).  Windows "upgrades" are really full OS installs with a tansfer of apps, services, profiles and settings (to some extent - a lot of profile settingfs were reset to default this time).  It's not as smooth of a process as Microsoft makes it out to be.

In my case, I get an error when I try to cnange the location of the backup. If I use the default location for my machine, then the backup works. If I move the location to another external drive, then the backup fails.

you are right my asz backup,i forgot to say , is the only one working

@ Bobbo_3C0X1 : thanks for your detailed feedback , apparently MBAM didnt put its mess for me

ps : perhaps a clue, i did desactivate acronis protection before the windows upgrade

Hello All,

Thank you for the input.

If the backup fails after upgraded to Creators - re-select backup source and destination, as suggested by Bobbo.

If True Image closes unexpectedly while in Browse window, please check if the Desktop folder or the folder that you are trying to browse contains a special item - a folder, created with {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} in its name, for example, AllSettings.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} or God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. It is a known issue that the Browse window does not handle properly this item on latest Windows Insider Preview / Creators builds. This issue will be fixed in the upcoming update for Acronis True Image 2017. Until then, as a workaround you can move that special item into a subfolder and do not try to select and expand that subfolder's contents in the Browse dialog.

Slava

Slava,

If I understand you correctly the God Mode folder needs to be in a subdirectory and not in the Desktop folder correct?

Right, and even when it is in a subdirectory, the user should not attempt to see the contents of that subdirectory in the Browse dialog. If he does, TrueImage.exe will crash again.

Slava

Hi Slava ,

Thanks for the tip, it worked for me, i just created a godmode folder in desktop and move the godemode icon into it and no more ATI 2017 crashes when selecting the source or destination of any schedduled backups :)  (ps: done before the ATI 2017 update released today)

Today Acronis released build 8041 which should fix the problems with the Windows 10 Creators Update.

FYI for others... latest versions for all Acronis products are on the Product Updates Page.

Were told the NG 6206 update is more in depth and addresses new updates to the system protection and bug fixes.  The STD 8024 update pretty much just addresses the Windows 10 Creator compatibility and we should see a more in depth update for STD in a couple of weeks to bring in the bug fixes that NG 6206 received.

You mean STD 8041 instead of 8024, I think.

I was going by the info on the Acronis page:

 Acronis True Image 2017 for PC (Build # 8024, English, 493.9 MB)2017-04-11

When downloaded though, and checking the EXE version, it is indeed 8041 - Acronis will need to update the info on the downloads to correct that.  I'll send a PM to Slava.

Hello,
I installed the Windows Creators update.
I've updated Acronis to build 8041.
I encountered problems and I contacted the assistance.
They reported: With the latest update of 1703 windows there are problems with various services.
You need to do the following:
- completely delete TrueImage with the appropriate utility;
- delete the windows update;
- upgrade windows again;
- Install the latest True Image build.

For the moment I have restored the S.O. Without any updates.
I will wait for new updates.
regards

Lorenzo, thanks for your post above.  I am not aware of any users needing to do all the steps that you have been advised.

ATIH 2017 build 8041 includes fixes for compatibility issues with the Windows 10 Creators Update, so if Windows 10 is running OK on your computer, the only further steps that may be needed would be to do a clean install of the ATIH 2017 build 8041 software.

When you say that you have restored the S.O.  can you please clarify what you mean by this?

Hello,
I have reset a previous acronis image.

I will wait for new builds.

Windows 10 Creators update is one of big update launched by Microsoft, this update contains lots of patches and features to make Windows 10 more perfect. But if you are suffering from any issues while upgrading to Windows 10 Creators and unable to update your system to Windows 10 Creators update then you need to fix the issue first.

Source:  List of Windows 10 Creators Update Issues and their Solutions

I have the Windows Creators update installed and AcronisTrueImage2016_6589.  The full disk backup that I have been running for a year fails with this message:

More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.
To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x006400C8+0x0064023B+0x00900012+0x0009005E.  This is not helpful.

I reboot and repair Acronis with a fresh download.  Then it runs the full backup without an issue.  The next time I run the full backup after a reboot, it fails with the same message.  Again a repair from the download fixes the problem.  This is not a good way to do backups :)

wsbones, welcome to these user forums.

Have you tried creating a new backup task where you have selected your source & destination anew?

The main issue encountered after the Windows 10 Creator's Update was the presence of the 'God Mode' folder on the windows desktop, where moving this folder away from the desktop resolved the problem.

From earlier in this topic thread:

I see no such folder(s) anywhere on the HD or the external destination drive.

I used everything.exe to search all files and it doesn't exist.

I will try to create a new backup and see if that solves the problem.

When I use the old backup name and re-select the origin and destination, that fails however.

Thanks for the reply.

Slava,

Creating a new backup from scratch seems to have solved the problem.

Cloning the old settings however did not work.

Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear that creating the new backup task has solved the problem.
