Windows 10 Pro x64

Thread needs solution

Early next week, I am switching my system to Windows 10 Pro x64.  I have a blank WD Blue 1TB hard drive ready and waiting. Here is my question: Will I have any issues with reactivation when I make the change?

What Os are you switching from and when are you doing that?  If you have Windows 10 Pro installed on the machine, backup and restore to a new drive and put it in the same pachine, licensing will not be an issue as Windows 10 licensiing is based upon the hardware it was registered to (the motherboard ID).  You can change hard drives all day long and restore your image in the same machine and Windows will stay licensed as long as it registered with Microsoft at least one other time on the same hardware.

However, if you are upgrading the OS from something other than Windows 10 to Windows 10 and changing drives...

1) Backup your existing OS before you do anything - just in case. Do a full disk backup with the offline reocvery media right before you proceed - taht will give you the best recovery option (offline backups are my favorite since they don't deal with anything inside of Windows that can possibly interfere)

2) Restore the backup to the new drive and swap it out for the old one - only have one drive with the OS installed when you boot.  Once you know the system is booting on the new drive, then perform your Windows 10 upgrade.  You should have a Windows 10 Pro license key to enter if upgrading from an older OS to Windows 10 Pro.

Or, upgrade the old drive and then take a 2nd new backup after the upgrade (after making sure it's licensed with Microsoft on the new OS) and then restore that backup to the new hard drive.
