Windows XP hard drive not found

Thread needs solution

Hi, my Aunt had a problem with her Windows XP laptop and asked me to have a look. First thing I attempted was to back the drive up with a TI 2017 rescue disk. TI reported no hard drive found, event code 0X0001F4X0X000A01FD, which I could not find in TI database.  The drive is listed in Windows Disk Manager. Being curious, I tried TI rescue disks from 2016, 2015, 2014 & 2012. Result: 2017/16/15 do not see the hard drive, 2014 & 2012 see the drive and back it up just fine.   I don't expect to see many more XP computers, but I'm curious as to why Acronis would delete support for XP drives, starting with TI 2015.

Hs your Aunt's computer been updated to XP SP3?  If not this would cause the application to error.

Also, try building the rescue media with our MVP WinPE media builder (links below - you'll need to have Windows ADK installed on the machine you build it with first - highly recommend Windows 10 ADK 1511 (but the newer 1607 is OK too - you can install Windows 10 ADK on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and/or 10).  Win the WinPE rescue media, driver support is likely to be much metter and should address most RAID controllers (which may not be in use in this case, but is much more common with newer hardware).

I can't really say why the default Linux media is not detecting the drive with the rescue media unless she has a special controller.  Regardless, WinPE rescue media with out MVP tool will give it the best chance for detection as it has better out of the box driver support than the default Linux recovery media.  Build the rescue media on your 2017 machine for best compatibility.

Cheers!
