Accidentally ignored backup version, backup should be fine. How do I restore or clean drive?

Thread needs solution

Hi Guys & Girls,

I accidentally deleted a backup version from Acronis True Image 2018.

The backup should be fine.

How do I restore a deleted or ignored backup version?

If not possible to restore, how do I reformat my external hard disk?

Please help ASAP, thank you.

Clarence, welcome to these public User Forums.

What exactly have you deleted here and how did you delete it?

To recover any deleted files you would need to use an undelete utility program such as Acronis Revive, Recuva etc - the success of such programs depends on what other activity has been performed on the drive where the files were deleted from.

If you want to make a clean start then there should be no need to reformat the external hard disk, just run your backup task again to that drive and answer any error messages about missing files that may be shown.

Was the entire file actually deleted, or just the backup job?  You can import backups that still actually exist, or use rescue media to recover from them.  If you actually deleted the file though, it's basically gone. There are other recovery tools that might be able to get it back (if the disk hasn't written something new to the same sector of the disk where that file used to live already).  You could try Recuva and hope it finds it and see if it can recover it.  In many cases, it can be successful.  However, once a file has been deleted and removed from the trash bin, there's no guarantee.
