Acronis 2018 backs up 300GB instead of 106GB

Thread needs solution

I created an incremental backup job to backup my C drive. After I specified the source data, Acronis showed that about 106 GB of data would be backed up, which agreed with File Explorer's estimate of about 106 GB used on that drive. But when I ran the backup, it showed 309 GB of data to be backed up. The job then proceeded to create two full backups of the C drive, followed by three incremental backups, and was in the process of creating yet another incremental when I killed it.

Thinking that Acronis may have been corrupted, I uninstalled then reinstalled it. I created a new backup job with the same options (but with a different name and different destination folder), and once again it showed about 106 GB to be backed up. But again, when I started the backup it showed 309 GB to be backed up. At that point I killed it.

I've never seen this type of problem from Acronis (although I've seen many others). I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has had the same problem and has come up with a fix.

John, welcome to these public user forums.

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to review the log file for your backup operation. This should provide more information on why you are seeing this issue.

Also, what exactly are you selecting as your backup Source for this backup task?

Screen shots of your settings could be helpful here too.
