Acronis claims it doesn't install

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have just bought 2018.  I've used Acronis 2013-2017 before on my machines.  I needed to clone couple of drives on my machine so I figured I'd install 2018 and let it chew through it.

When I install 2018 build 9660 it goes through all the motions.  It then shows a "Update Complete" window with a "Start application" button.  Clicking on the button does nothing.

If I close this window and then try to run Acronis, it starts, asks for admin rights to update settings, then a message window pops up "Acronis True Image is not installed."

I have restored my computer to what it was yesterday with System Restore and repeated this process with exactly the same results.

I have uninstalled it and I'm going to try 2017 instead, see if that works better.

Any ideas as to what to try?

Best regards,

Arnor Baldvinsson

Arnor, sorry to hear of the problem you are having installing ATI 2018.

What version/build of Windows OS is running on this computer?

Are you installing using an Administrator user account?

What previous version, if any, of ATI was installed on this computer?

It may be that you need to perform a clean install of ATI 2018 to get this to install correctly.  To do this, first uninstall any existing Acronis software via the Windows Control Panel and then download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link below in my signature) and run this as Administrator followed by restarting the computer to complete the action before attempting the install again.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.  Sorry forgot to say, I'm running Windows 10 Home, up to date as of Saturday, build 15063.540.

Do I need to use "Run as Administrator" when starting the install?

I will download the cleanup tool and do this tomorrow.  I'm cloning two 2TB drives with another cloning tool I have, but I need ATI for image backups so I need to make this work.

Sorry about the duplicate post - first one didn't show so I sent it again.

Best regards,

Arnor

Arnor, your Windows 10 Home build 15063 is actually quite old and is not the latest version.

Microsoft released the Fall Creators Update a few weeks back which shows up as Windows 10 Home Version 1709 - OS Build 16299.19 in the About page of the main Settings panel > System button.

There was also an earlier Creators Update version 1703 before this one.

Run as Administrator is recommended though not always necessary if using an Administrator user account to install from.

Hi Steve,

Hmm...  Interesting.  It updated about a week ago - or so I thought - so I would think it was the latest.  It's set to download and install automatically.  But I've had issues with the update on this machine since the update in June/July :(

Well, thanks for bringing this to my attention!  When I go to the update screen the settings app just disappears!  Think I'll have to bite the bullet and install W10 clean on this thing...

Best regards,

Arnor

Arnor, you shouldn't need to do a clean Win 10 install - try doing an in-place upgrade first which will keep your settings, apps etc.
