Acronis Image Hijacking Computer

Thread needs solution

I no longer use Acronis as a backup, but I need it for my old images. I have Acronis True Image 2018 but it keeps "upgrading" me to the Cyber product which has hijacked my computer so that I can no longer get in. It's running some sort of bootup program called "trueimage_starter.exe". It's just stuck in some sort of loop and it's keeping me from restoring a backup from a new program I'm using for backup. Help! Thanks.

Ricky, check that you have no USB memory sticks or drives connected to your computer that it is trying to boot from ahead of booting from Windows - remove all such devices and try booting normally again.

Acronis has never automatically upgraded any computers from 2018 (perpetual license) to ACPHO (subscription) without getting user involvement as far as I understand - I have never seen this happen myself or seen reports of it in the forums!

Once you can get back into Windows then go into the Control Panel > Programs & Features and check what actual Acronis program is installed to confirm you have ACPHO installed - if you do, then uninstall it from there then restart the computer again.  You should then be able to reinstall ATI 2018 again using your perpetual license.

Note: you could also create a bootable USB or CD of the ATI 2018 rescue media and use that to be able to restore any old backups if needed without having to reinstall the full application or keep it installed if using an alternative solution.

Will try. Thank!

I remember upgrading to the trial of the other product but couldn't get 2018 to read any of my backups. After I uninstalled them completely (2018 and the other one), it still runs Acronis active protection(?) and it gets stuck in a loop.
