Acronis thinks my basic disks are dynamic

Thread needs solution

I am trying to clone one disk to another and Windows 10, under disk management, shows both as basic disks.  Yet when I start the cloning procedure from the rescue disk, I pick the source disk (1TB) and then click Next.  It sits there with a little animated clock for about a minute and then goes on to ask me for the destination disk (2TB).  After I pick the destination disk it prompts for MBR or GPT.  I choose MBR which is the option that will copy partitions as is.  It then gives me the message "Unable to lock the dynamic disk.  Boot your computer from a Linux-based bootable media, and then try again."  I saw an article on the web for a past version of Acronis where Acronis thought the disks were dynamic while Windows showed them as basic, but the article kind of died without resolution.  Can you help?

Steve, the most likely cause of this issue is that when you booted from the rescue disk, your computer hadn't actually been fully shutdown first but was in a hybrid sleep (aka hibernation) state due to having Windows Fast Start enabled.

When doing a shutdown with Fast Start enabled, press & hold the Shift key while clicking on Shutdown to cause a full shutdown, or else do a Restart instead which will shutdown fully then allow you to use any boot menu options to select to boot from your rescue media.

The alternative here with ATI 2018 is to use the Active Cloning option and perform this action from within Windows - the key when doing this is to ensure the target drive is empty of any recognisable OS else it may want to restart the computer to continue!

Please always make a full backup of your source drive before embarking on cloning actions.
