"Acronis T.I. is terminating..." Re: Computer Booted Up Severely Dimmed This Morning"

Thread needs solution

Win 10 Pro. 1709. Acronis TI 2018 Build 10640. Powered up this morning and logged in and the screen was severely dimmed. I started to open up the task manager to poke around and then was going to look at the power plans to see if anything had changed. I was then greeted with a UAC asking me if I wanted to allow the Google Chrome Browser to make changes to my computer which is really nothing since I get that UAC message every time I start Chrome. I said no. Since I was not finished poking around. I did not run a virus scan. Since I know that a restart and or shutting down fixes all manner of ills I decided to restart. I was met with the message that "Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations please wait..." So while I waited about 20 seconds for the machine to reboot I thought that possibly Acronis my have been updating (at start up?) and the reason that I got that UAC message about Chrome was that I was going to be redirected to the Acronis website. I should note that the other day I turned off some Acronis services from running to disabled since it did not appear that I use them. One was I think Acronis NON Stop Backup Service. Upon reboot the screen brightness was back to normal ie. very bright : ) Ran the virus scan and it came up clean. So it's possible that this momentary glitch is entirely unrelated to Acronis but I am not sure. If it was Acronis and it was doing something why would the screen go dim like that. I will have more time later today to GOOGLE all this but I wanted to get this message posted before leaving this morning. What do you all think? TIA.

Dan, sounds like a strange problem but doubtful that it was really related to Acronis unless you have any backup tasks which are set to run on system start, or to run then after a failed / missed schedule etc.

I have never seen the "ATI is terminating..." message issued for an ATI Update and there hasn't been an update since build 10640 which you already have installed.

Stopping the Acronis NSB service or other unused services would not give the terminating message in these circumstances.

Hello dan cone,

If you did not specifically click on "Update" when Acronis True Image shows you a notification that an update is available, Acronis True Image would not update on its own. (Plus, 10640 is the latest build).

The message "Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations" may be shown if a backup was being performed when you decided to shut down the PC.

I personally have never faced the situations where Acronis True Image would dim the user screen. If you could stably reproduce it, it would have been interesting for us to investigate such situations.

No file or folder or image backups are scheduled. At least none that I am aware of. I should point out that I was plugged in at the time and almost full charge and my power plan is full brightness on AC or battery and not for nothing but TI 2018 has never worked properly for me though I do not think that this newest "adventure" is at all related to that:

https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2018-forum/acronis-customer-expert-support-confirmed-me-there-issue-ti-2018

The reason I thought that it was TI that was dimming the screen was because I was only poking around the task manager for about 20 seconds or so when I went to restart to see if it would magically fix itself and that was when I got that message that Acronis was doing something.

Copy that.

I do not believe I have any scheduled backups but I will have to check. But even if I did would that attempt at a backup start immediately once I reached the desktop and even before all of the icons finished loading and that certainly I do not think would cause the screen to be dimmed like that.

>If you could stably reproduce it

Why would I want to do that : ) Just kidding. Hopefully it was just a gremlin and when I boot up this evening all will be back to "normal."

Hi @ dan cone  ,

That's wrong. Acronis True Image will update on its own, if when creating a Full Backup image of a partition, that you forgot to go into Options and select Do Not Schedule.

The Default Schedule is One Week. Every single time, you create a New Full Backup Image, you need to go into Options and Dot Do Not Schedule.

Again, no. If you have Acronis Nonstop Backup Service set to Automatic, you will see Acronis True Image is shutting in two minutes, if Acronis Nonstop Backup Service is set to Automatic. I have.

In Services, I Disabled Acronis Nonstop Backup Service.

Dan,

Have you created any cloud backups?  If you have when you start Windows TI will attempt to make contact with your cloud account so that backups in the cloud are available for the user.  If you decide to quickly restart or shutdown Windows while cloud access is in progress you will get the Terminating current operations message..

Hello thecreator,

In the "Acronis True Image would not update on its own" I was writing about the build update, not the creation of a new backup.

Hi

>Have you created any cloud backups?

No. If it means anything these are the two Acronis services that I recently switched from RUNNING to Disabled but I did this several days ago (I think) before I got that severely dimmed screen yesterday when I booted up and then that Acronis warning when I went to reboot a half minute or so later. I did not have a chance to boot up yesterday evening but this morning the display was bright as ever so I have no idea what was going on or if in fact the Acronis message was just a coincidence and not at all related to the situation. The only thing I did not have a chance to do was explore the Acronis settings to see if in fact I have some kind of backup setting but even if I did would that cause the display to go very dim upon boot up with almost a full charge and plugged into the AC? We''l see.

Dan, the main reason why I ever see the screen dim is when UAC is being activated, i.e. there is a hidden panel waiting for a response to a security challenge.

I have seen my laptop screen dim when Windows does not read ACPI settings correctly and thinks that the machine is on battery instead of plugged in.

Hmm. Well I did not see anything pop up nor do I recall seeing anything in the task bar or system tray alerting me to anything though perhaps the screen was too dim for me to see anything : )
