Acronis True Image 2018 Compared to 2017?

Thread needs solution

Anyone have experience with Acronis True Image 2018 after upgrading from 2017 and would like to share your experience(s)?  I have Acronis True Image 2017 and see that 2018 is available and would like to know how it works compared to 2017.  I backup to harddrives normally and do not backup online.

Thanks for any insights!

Charlie, I have used / still use a mix of both ATI 2017 and 2018 on different computers, including having upgraded some from 2017 to 2018.

All has gone pretty smoothly in doing that transition for me but some other users will tell you of various problems they have encountered, some of which have been related to running on Windows XP and other on Windows 10 using Insiders builds, and some where doing either a Repair install or making a clean install has normally resolved the issues.

Personally, I like 2018 over 2017 though it will look a bit different to you at first as there have been changes to the main GUI to add more information that wasn't provided previously, i.e. Activity details showing when previous backups were done, what type they were and the result achieved.

There have been some performance changes introduced in 2018 to improve the speed of backups plus one major change is the integration of the Acronis Active Protection component to protect Acronis and other files from ransomware - this has been added to all versions of the 2018 product rather than being a Premium feature with 2017 in just the New Generation version.

One other key change with 2018 is the change to defaulting to creating Windows PE Rescue media using data taken from the computer Recovery partition (Win RE) without needing the user to download and install the Windows ADK application unless you want to make customised WinPE rescue media (such as the MVP Custom ATIPE media).
