acronis true image 2018 remote code takes hour and 50 minutes to clone 30gb windows drive

Thread needs solution

After upgrading acronis true image 2018 it changed. When cloning the C drive with windows on it it required a restart wherein it loaded a program which did the clone. Prior to the upgrade it only took 15 to 20 minutes to clone the C drive. Now when I also clone a non windows drive each month it still only takes 15 to 20 minutes for it to clone. Problem is same for either win 8.1 or win 10. Now yesterday cloned a C drive which only used 30GB space and the new drive had 81gb used. This is weird. Complained to Acronis and thought it was corrected because a non win drive cloned O.K. What is acronis coing and why the restart.

Charles, welcome to these public User Forums.

Whenever you start a clone from within Windows then there is the possibility that a restart will be required, especially when cloning the active Windows OS drive C: or if cloning to a target drive that already has a previous clone written to it.

With ATI 2018 and later versions, Acronis introduced the Active Clone feature which uses the same Microsoft VSS snapshot service to capture the drive data as is used for doing Backups, but this too may require a restart when there is already an OS detected on the target drive.

See Acronis True Image 2018: Active Cloning | Knowledge Base for more information on using this new feature.
