Active Protection Blocks Legitimate Applications - What to Do?

Thread needs solution

I've been using True Image 2018 for a few days now and basically it's all working well with backups working both locally to external drives and to Acronis Cloud.

One thing I notice, as have others, is that Active Protection is blocking legitimate applications. So far, it has blocked Intel iastordatamgrsvc.exe from modifying the MBR and C:\windows\system32\rundll.exe from accessing the registry.

I opened a support case for the first issue, just so Acronis is aware of the issue. But I wonder what the best way to proceed for the second, and any future applications that are blocked. Should I open a support case for each? Does participating in the Customer Experience Program send this info to Acronis? Something else?

I've white listed both of these applications but I'm hesitant to keep doing that. How do I know if a particular app is behaving properly? How do I know if it has been compromised (or will be compromised in the future) and causing trouble because I've white listed it.

Thanks.

Daryl, please see KB 60193: Acronis True Image 2018: Active Protection blocks legitimate applications which gives the official position from Acronis on how to approach this issue.

If you already have an open Support Case, I would suggest just updating this with other application details as you discover them just to give more feedback to the AAP developers so that they can consider adding these to any official whitelist used within the code to identify the more common programs that will cause blocking which should be allowed.
