ActiveProtection trashes Spotlight in High Sierra?

Thread needs solution

I've had a heck of a time with Spotlight over the past two weeks.  For the life of. me, I couldn't get Spotlight to index my drive.  I went through all the suggestions, even to re-install High Sierra.  Today, I wanted to cut back on the computer's load, so I turned off ActiveProtection and Spotlight suddenly started indexing again.  I turned Active Protection back on, and my Spotlight index was gone again.  Back off, and Spotlight is indexing again.

Anyone else see something similar?

Spotlight must access metadata at a low disk level in order to perform its search and index functions.  Spotlight also relies on Application developers to implement the service on an application by application basis.

The fact that Spotlight operates disk calls at low levels means that such patterns are similar to known ransomware actions.  This triggers the block of the action.  I think it troubling however that you do not mention seeing any messages from AAP about this on your computer.  I think you should have.

For that reason you need to open a support case with Acronis.  In the interim you should add the Spotlight executable file to the AAP exclusion list in the True Image app to see if that will allow Spotlight to functions as intended.
