ATI 2018 : How to schedule backup "upon event" only at shut down (and not at startup) ?
Hi,
I use Acronis True Image 2018 and I would like to schedule backup "upon event" but only at shut down, and not at startup (because I don't want a backup to launch while using my computer).
But it seems that it can't be one without the other, right ?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your answer.
But this won't prevent what I don't want i.e. having a backup starting at computer start (if the last one, launched at lthe last shutdown, didn' work).
No way to prevent that behaviour ? (so that backups only happen at shutdowns, never while computer is in use)

Vincent, if you do not have the option set to run missed backups at start, then a failed backup is just that and should not run when you reboot the computer.
See the following from the ATI 2018 User Guide; Scheduling section.
If the computer is switched off when the scheduled time comes, the operation won't be performed. You can force the missed operation to run at the next system startup. To do so, select the Run missed operations at the system startup with delay (in minutes) check box.
Additionally, you can set a time delay to start backup after the system startup. For example, to start backup 20 minutes after system startup, type 20 in the appropriate box.

I'm really sorry Steve but I don't think I understand (maybe because I'm French and don't handle english too well) : if I apply these settings, it WILL perform a backup while the computer is in use (i.e. at 21:00), which I don't want.
I only want it to perform when I shut my computer off (and never when it is in use).
Si I assume this is not possible, right ?

Vincent, sorry my screen image is from one of my own backup tasks which runs daily at 21:00 where I was just showing you the Advanced options at the bottom of the screen which you can use to stop a backup running when the system is started.
It is possible to run backups using on event at shutdown & restart!

Thanks.
So with these settings, if the backup doesn't work at shutdown (or if it's interrupted before its end for example), it won't try another backup at the next restart of the computer ?

No, it shouldn't try to backup when the computer is restarted. If it did do so, then there are some further Error handling settings on the Advanced options page that may need to be changed to stop ATI from keep retrying the backup when an error happens!

ok, I'll try that and come back to you.
A huge thank you anyway for your help !

Vincent, you are very welcome. I just did a restart of my laptop with the settings above and it all ran correctly before shutting down & restarting. The only key difference here is that I am using ATI 2020 instead of your ATI 2018, but as far as I know there have been no significant changes in this area inbetween the two versions.
The log file for my 'on event' backup task shows as below (from the MVP Log Viewer tool).

So I'm back as promised !
So far, it seems that the settings you suggested have resolved my issue, so thanks a lot.
And a very happy new year to you !
Bye,
Vincent
