ATI 2018 Install Causing Random Application Hang

Thread needs solution

I used Acronis a few years ago and have license for ATI 2017 and 2018.  I had recently decided to do daily backups and Macrium Reflect Free would not allow me to do incremental backups.  I had just been doing periodic full backups prior to this time.  I use a cloud file storage service for all my files but I have a growing virtual environment on Oracle VirtualBox that I wanted to backup regularly.

In any event I decided to install ATI 2018 on my system since I had already purchased that a couple of years ago.  I installed the application and set everything up and all was working fine with the backups.  The problems with system stability started immediately after I installed ATI 2018 (Update 5) on my system.  I do a lot of video editing as well and that is where I noticed it first.  Video editing application would hang while I was editing video and would stay that way for 5-10 minutes.  It would eventually become responsive again if I waited long enough.  At first I thought this was my video editing application but then Chromium Edge started locking up on me as well the same exact way.  I uninstalled ATI 2018 and the problems have gone away completely.  There is nothing wrong with my system and it was working fine before and after so it is obviously ATI 2018 that caused these problems.

I could not find any useful information on how to resolve these issues so I have reinstalled Macrium Reflect with a trial version for 30 days which will allow me to do my daily incremental backups.  I always leave the active protection disabled and prevent the tray icon from starting when I start my system.

Just posting here because I am curious as to why this is happening.  This software made my system pretty much unusable after it was installed.  Anyone have any clue as to the cause?

TIA

Ken, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but without you having ATI 2018 installed for the purpose of collecting more information or being able to enable / disable specific components of the application, then it is very difficult to be able to tell you why you saw the performance impact described in this topic.

The most likely cause may be Acronis Active Protection if this is enabled and you have not whitelisted your key applications within the settings for AAP.

See the following documents for detailed information on AAP.
