ati 2018 validation failed

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

i am receiving the following message near the end of the validation process of my last backup on an external SSD hardisk.

''corrupted file, this may be due to poor media quality''.

I tried to back up on 2 different external drive.

Anybody knows where I can look for troubleshooting for this?

then I tried to create a new backup. What should I do when a file is corrupt?

here is the MVP viewer file:

JM, the log shows that validation runs for over 24 minutes before giving the corrupted file error message, and given that the file named is an incremental thus is part of a chain including a full backup file, the corruption could be in either of these files.

The validation process reads back through the backup .tib files and recalculates the regular checksum values for the data and compares these with values embedded within the files, thus if any checksum values do not match, the file(s) will be deemed to be corrupt.

File corruption can occur for a number of reasons:

  • Bad destination disk drive
  • Bad connecting cable(s) between the drive and computer
  • Power issues during the write process to the drive
  • Memory issues causing corruption of data
  • Overclocking

The above assumes that the backup .tib file(s) were created successfully in the first place and have either gone bad later or during the process of writing data to the backup drive.
