Backup file splitting preferences - is bigger faster or slower?

Thread needs solution

I was just wondering if there are any performance differences between large or small file splitting when creating or validating.

Are bigger (25GB) segments faster or slower compared to smaller (8GB).

Thanks for any info.

Sorry to not try to answer your question directly, but why are you wanting to use segmentation for your backups here?

Personally I just keep with the default settings in this area and go with just one .tib file per backup action.  Segmentation is of more use if you are needing to move your backup files across connections that impose file size limitations such as by FTP or if you would be burning to optical media etc.

My own understanding is that larger file sizes are better when writing to disk as it allows the system to achieve the best transfer rates, packet sizes etc.
