Backup Files just dissappeared? Logs show no problems

Thread needs solution

Hi I am having a bizarre problem. I have been using ATI 2018 for a long time now and have done hundreds of backups and dozens of restores with no problems. I had some application changes fail tonight and went to restore from backup.Only It's showing no backup activity at all on 2 separate tasks. The button just says "Reconfigure" on the daily tasks and "12/3 scheduled" for the weekly task.

My daily backup shows last activity 11/22/19 and my weekly backup shows 10/15/19. I thought maybe there was just something messed up in the gui, but to my horror there are no backup files either. But my last "Backup task created successfully" e-mail came across this morning after 12:30 AM like it always does.

I have a daily incremental setup to run at 12:30AM every morning to an attached USB3 external drive.
I have a separate weekly Full backup that runs every Tuesday at 2:00 AM to my NAS.

I pulled up the log viewer and can see the same successful logs that were getting e-mailed to me. I've uploaded the log of the backup task I hoped to restore from.

I looked in Windows Event log and can't find anything. I also checked recycle bin just in case and can't find anything. I leave the Acronis active protection on. There are no applications on this machine other than Acronis that interact with the Acronis files.

Any ideas?

I restored from 11-22-19 and rebuilt what I could from there. Not ideal but was the best option I could come up with. After the restore, the backup history on the activity tab has returned (even though the files it says it created do not exist).

To summarize the issue. ATI has been showing that backups were created successfully but when I went to restore, none of the recent files existed. Two different backup tasks to separate destinations on different machines were affected. These tasks have been backing up successfully (with validated restores) for months until this point. I still have no idea what could have caused this.

Chris, sorry to read of your problem here and have no explanation that I can offer as to why or how your other backup files have disappeared?

I can only recommend keeping a close eye on things for the time being, plus check that all your backup task configuration settings are showing correctly as you want them to be.

Do you know if there are any logs for whatever Acronis uses to age out old backups? It almost seems like something in the application had a catastrophic failure that caused it to purge the wrong files.

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to review the log files for your backup operation. This is the easiest way to find and view the log files.
