Backup Naming QUestion

Thread needs solution

Sorry, If this question has been answered.  I found a few discussion, but I don't think the answers I have found fully address my question.

I upgraded 2 Lenovo laptop HHDs to SSD using Acronis Home 2018 full disk backup. I made a full backup of the upgraded system right after updating Windows, no apps.  I created a 2nd back-up after I installed my usual selection of apps, no data.

I saved the 2 backups on an external usb HDD in separate folders since Acronis gave both files the same name.  My questions are: 1. Will Acronis restore either file if I select it?  2. Can I rename the files to indicate which is factory default and which has apps installed?

For the file: PC1_full_b1_s1_v1.tib, I would just change the PC1 part. Or, if Acronis will restore either file, I just need to keep in separate folders so I know which is which.

I am not planning to have Acrons perform incremental backups. I have another scheme to keep my data backed up.  I want to maintain both files in case of a complete SDD failure.

Thanks,

Roger

Roger, the key part about renaming your backup files is to know if these are shown in your ATI 2018 GUI and associated there with backup tasks?

If they are shown there, then I would recommend taking the Delete option for the task(s) that created the files, but only take the option to remove the settings only.  This will allow you to rename the backup files to whatever you want it to be using Windows Explorer.

Once the files are renamed, then you can use the option to Add existing backup to add the renamed backup file(s) back to the GUI but you will then need to reconfigure the settings for the task(s).  Alternatively, leave the backups in their folders and know that you can restore them using the Acronis Rescue media without needing to have any tasks in the GUI.

Thanks much Steve. That is what I thought, but wen I need to recover a laptop is not the time to find out it won't work.
