bitter and bad experiences with ATI 2018
Here are my bitter and bad experiences with ATI 2018.
I had worked for many years with ATI 2010 under Win7, always without any problems. The program was intuitive to use, clearly structured and it just did what my purpose was, it was really worth the money.
Now I've bought ATI 2018 (under Win 10) - not 2020 ! Because my gut instinct warned me not to become beta tester for ATI 2020. Ironically I became a frustrated ATI 2018 tester.
ATI 2018 is a huge step backwards in comparison to ATI 2010. The program drives me crazy. The user interface comes along "nicely, with modern look”, but is only colorful glow, "Kickibunti", as a German user has described it here in the forum. Nothing is anymore logically structured. With 2010 I was able to handle the backup and the recovery between source and destination with an explorer-like structure in a simple and logic way. Now I'm wondering how and where I have to choose source and destination.
And during recovery that: "Can’t find version 1". What? I always use the backup method "completely". The old versions will be deleted from time to time - via the explorer! But you can’t do that, this feature doesn’t work (anymore). I can no longer freely handle a backup file, archive it anywhere, internally or externally. I have to do it the way the ATI programmer has burnt the rules.
Namely, all archive processes are logged somewhere in the background. If I want to leave this ATI scheme (which was possible with ATI 2010), the backup file simply can’t be found anymore.
This also applies to the name of the backup file, which can’t be changed freely (it's my practise so I can recognize and find a backup of interest later). Changing the file name causes maximum chaos.
Or take that: At random, a backup file gets sometimes a lot bigger (50 - 100%) than the source or sometimes only 1/4 as big. It is truly annoying.
I used the chat support twice. One problem was solved like this: "Version 2018 is no longer supported, just buy ATI 2020". That is, I’m sorry to say, a brash statement. Another chat was more effective; the agent did a remote session and solved the problem. That said, the problem was solved, but I noticed to my horror: Oh my God, how can someone write this program so miserable. I would not have come in 100 years to this kind of a bizarre logic. I am a longtime PC user and have already eliminated many stumbling blocks in other programs, but I haven’t seen something like the ATI 2018 programming logic. In Germany they say: “Von hinten durch die Brust ins Auge”. The direct translation: “From the back through the chest in the eye”. Or, a more free translation: “Take the most roundabout way”.
Why did Acronis “improve” the solid and substantial TI 2010 program to the worse?
It is a pity. ATI 2010 on Windows 7 was really good, well thought out, reliable and with an intuitive interface that made any user guide redundant. Therefore the decision for my new Windows 10 PC was ATI 2018, because I already suspected that ATI 2020 may be too inflated and too overloaded.
No, ATI 2018 is not too overloaded, the program is simply useless.
I don't know how the ATI 2020 performs, but I'm afraid you can guess easily . . .
