Can I restore a backup from an almost empty 2Tb drive to a new 1 Tb drive?

Thread solved

Hello. I have a 2 Tb hard drive partitioned as D and E drives, each about 1 Tb, both both almost empty. I’ve resized and moved the partitions to be about 400 Gb each and at the beginning of the drive. If I now back up this drive, can I restore it to a new 1 Tb drive?

I’m using Acronis True Image 2021

Yes, you should be able to backup the drive and restore to a smaller drive, and as the drive is not the main OS drive, you should be able to do this from within Windows rather than having to use rescue media.

Thanks, Steve - I’ve probably not replied in the correct manner, but couldn’t work out how to use what I assumed was the Reply icon

Tom, your other option here would be to simply do a direct copy of all files / folders from the 2TB drive to the new 1TB drive assuming that both can be connected at the same time.
