Cannot delete old backups from external drive

Thread needs solution

I bought a new computer. I tried loading the backup from my old computer to my new one, but I gave up. I followed all the instructions, but when it came to downloading the driver files from the manufacturer's web site, I was unable to find what I needed, especially since I didn't know what I needed. I ended up loading my software and copying my files over.

Now that my new computer is all set up, I want to do a backup. The problem is that I cannot delete the old backups from my external drive. Apparently I don't have the authority to do this.

How can I go about deleting my old backups, to make room for my new ones?

Astrid, assuming that you are running Acronis True Image 2019 or 2018, then you probably also have Acronis Active Protection (AAP) running too, which will cause your old backups to be protected from being deleted.

The simplest approach here is to look for the AAP icon in the Windows Systems Tray area - the icon is a Shield shape with a white A on a blue background.  Right-click on the AAP icon and use the option to 'Turn off AAP', then retry deleting your old backup files.
