Cannot find version n error

Thread needs solution

I'm getting the "Cannot find version error" because" I deleted old backups.  The solution I found on the forum is to validate the backup task.  I'm doing this and it currently indicates that there are 10h 45m left on the validation.  Is there a better way to sync the ATI database with the remaining backups.  Is it true I cannot do a restore until that completes, seems so?

Andy, welcome to these public User Forums.

There are 2 other methods that you can use for this scenario:

  1. Use the Delete option for the backup task where you have been deleting files outside of ATI, selecting to Remove only the task settings (not delete everything!).
Then use the option to 'Add existing backup' to bring the task back again based on only the files that are still present.  You will still need to reconfigure the task settings.

  2. See KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - and follow the steps shown there for how to force a rebuild of the internal database (where all files are tracked by ATI).

In terms of doing a restore - if you do this via the Acronis bootable Rescue Media, then it doesn't use or know about the tracking database, just that all the files for the backup chain being restored are all present and correct, i.e. if you are restoring an Incremental backup chain with 5 incremental files, that all 5 files are present.

Restores done from the ATI GUI in Windows do use the tracking database and would give you errors for each & every missing / deleted backup file!

Note: ATI 2019 and later versions introduced a new 'Clean up versions' tool option for backup tasks to allow users to safely delete unwanted files within the ATI GUI and thus avoid this issue caused by using Explorer.
