Can't open .tib file
Using ATI2018 and Windows 10. On one computer Windows File Explorer opens .tib files just fine but on the other when I double click a .tib file I get "This folder is empty".
I am pretty sure it used to work on the one where it no longer does.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Thanks. But still does not work. Although I can get any files I want through the GUI.

Chris, if a Repair install didn't resolve this issue with the shell integration, then you will need to do a full, clean install of ATI 2018, again ensuring that this is done with Administrative privileges.
If you have any tasks already created, then use the new options on the main Settings page to save these to a zipped file, so that you can restore the task settings later (using the import option).

Same problem. Windows 10, external WD HD. Drive checks out w/o errors. All full and incremental backups are there, none have been moved, program wont read them, file explorer wont open them. Completely uninstalled program, and re installed. After re installing did a full back up again to the external drive.. Shut down after full back up, started up, went directly to program and IT doesn't see it, and windows file explorer finds it, but wont open. Earlier tried and install/repair as well. chkdsk, no errors. Cannot open any .tib files.

You might wish to check file associations in Windows look HERE

David, how is your external WD HDD formatted - what filesystem is being used here? Ideally it should be NTFS using either MBR (<2TB) or GPT (>2TB) partitioning, not exFAT (which some drives come formatted as).

Thanks for the replies, but no go. Format is NTFS using GPT (6TB drive). I also have older backups on two other drives, correctly formated, same thing. ALSO, was able to sporadically read them, but then had the "directory is empty" problem as well which has been reported on other threads as well.

David, can you browse these backups via the main ATI 2018 GUI using the Recovery page options? This should show whether this is purely a shell integration issue or a problem with the backup files or the drive?
Some further questions:
How is this WD drive connected? Same question(s) ref other drives showing same issue?
What type of USB port being used?
How is the drive being powered?
Ideally if this is a USB 3.0 drive, it should be connected to a rear USB 3.0 port on your computer and be powered independently rather than from the USB port.
If using a USB hub or dock, this should have its own power supply where available.

WD external drive connected to USB 3.0 w/o hub, externally powered, formated as suggested. Just made a full back up with new settings. At first could read to recover both from the program itself, AND opening in file explorer. Closed program. Rebooted computer, and on restarting acronis (2016) it then said backup was never done. Deleted the file on the HD and those backup settings in acronis. Rebooted again, and made another back up. This time it states backup completed successfully, file is present in file explorer etc, but on hitting recover it states can't find vol 1 and again wont open from file explorer either.
It seems the problem is both intermittent, AND not reproducible. Have repaired program twice, re-installed twice. I think will try whole process with a different back up program next week to try to determine if this is a HD issue (even though the WD HD check shows no errors). Also need to try with another drive... but will be out of town for a bit. All the suggestions are appreciated.

David, if you are able to do so, consider trying the ATI 2019 Beta while this is still open for new users - register and download the beta installer and try with that version of the product.

In reply to David, if you are able to do… by truwrikodrorow…

Tried the 2019 beta, it would hang on installation at the installing user settings. Tried twice. Uninstalled. Then reinstalled my previous 2016 (which I had done at least twice before) and somehow things appear to be working w/o a glitch so far. Can recover from within the program, can open all, even very old/moved .tib files etc. Thanks all for the help. Hope it lasts!
