Clean up not deleting Full backup older than 15 days.

Thread needs solution

I have clean up set to delete all full backups older than 15 days. I have a full backup performed each week. After the third week, the system info claims that the last backup (actually all backups) were successful and that Clean up reclaimed 850 GB of data. I then checked the NAS drive from within file explorer and found that ALL data was retained. All 3 weeks of backups were still there. I could just manually delete the oldest set, but am not sure if this will create a problem with the program thinking that I have a corrupt drive or something. I also think that if the program claims to have erased (reclaimed data space) that it should actually do it.

Any help Appreciated,

Gary

Gary, there is a common misconception around the Automatic Cleanup rules when using the option to delete backup version chains older than X days.

The X days does not start counting up until the next Full backup for a new version chain has been created successfully.

Personally, I prefer the alternative option to 'Store no more than Y recent backup version chains' as this is easier to understand.  The same rule still applies that the Y+1 full backup has to be created successfully before the oldest chain is deleted, but in this case the deletion happens immediately after Y+1 is created, instead of waiting for X days from that point before anything is deleted.
