clone is shit

Thread needs solution

so they don't support 2018 anymore and suddenly it won't clone or back up anymore due to inbuilt shut down then they raise the prices and tell you to upgrade to 2020. FEK YOU ACRONIS FEK YOU How long before they don't support 2020. This is serious BS and a total lack of ethics and morality and respect for their customers. .

Ian, welcome to these public User Forums.

What license do you have for ATI 2018?  If you have a perpetual (aka Standard) license then this will continue to work until you have an OS that no longer supports it.
If you have a subscription license, then this loses all function 30 days after the subscription ends apart from the ability to recover an existing backup.

All recent versions of ATI get up to one year of support from the release date of the version plus a further 30 days after the next version is released, so ATI 2019 was supported for a period of 13 months but became unsupported in September 2019, one month after ATI 2020 was released to the public.   This is many times better than Acronis used to offer in earlier versions of ATI which only received 30 days support from date of install or activation!

What actual problem do you have with using either cloning or backup here?

If you provide more details, then perhaps we can try to help you?

Hmm....Ian,

I have cloned a lot of hard drives over the years and I have never seen Acronis True Image wipe a drive clean.  If I were to guess I would suspect that perhaps you reversed your source and destination drives in the software and cloned an empty formatted drive overwriting your existing boot disk.

Hopefully, you made a backup before you cloned the disc and was able to recover your boot disc.

My experience mirrors that of @Virgil Britt; the only explanation I can think of is the one he suggests. You need to be careful when using recovery media as the drive letters/numbers do not reflect those when running Windows. To avoid these problems I always give each partition descriptive names. If I remember correctly, @Steve Smith does the same.
