Cloning

Thread needs solution

I attempted to clone my Win10 hard drive to a USB external hard drive.  When it got to the step of selecting my destination disk the external hard drive was listed as an option however I was unable to select the external hard drive.  I did check to make sure the external drive was a Basic drive but other than that I didn't know what else to check.  I'm hoping someone can provide some insight or a reason and solution for my problem.  Thanks in advance.

Tom, welcome to these User Forums.

Sorry that your forum topic was missed before now so no responses have been offered to you.

Please can you confirm what version / build of Acronis True Image you are using?  This can be found on the Account page of the ATI GUI.

Also, how are you attempting to do the clone of your Windows 10 HDD here?
Are you doing this from within the Windows ATI application, or are you booting from the standalone Acronis Rescue Media?

Please see forum topic: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this which was written for the ATI 2017 & older product versions but still has a lot of good advice for 2018 users, especially having a full disk backup image of your source Win 10 drive before doing any cloning.

If you do have ATI 2018, then you can use the new Active Cloning feature but the target USB drive you are cloning to should ideally be empty or unformatted, otherwise ATI will want to restart your computer to continue the clone operation.

See KB  60870: Acronis True Image 2018: Active Cloning for more information on this feature.

Note: your target USB drive must be of sufficient size to store the data & partitions from the source drive even though this may be smaller than the original source drive full size.
