Conflict between Acronis Active Protection and PC Matic
I currently use PC Matic for virus/malware protection. I am also using ATI 2018 with Acronis Active Protection (AAP) turned on. I was having issues with AAP not connecting to the AAP service after boot up. I would go to Services and the AAP settings were AAP off (not running) with startup set to Manual. I would start the AAP service and set the startup to Automatic. However, at next boot up, the AAP service would be off with startup set to Manual.
What I have discovered is that PC Matic is the guilty software that is setting the AAP startup to Manual. It does not stop the service, it just sets the startup to Manual. Therefore, at next boot up, the AAP service is not started and AAP is disabled.
I have now set PC Matic so it does not change any "Service" settings....and now AAP and PC Matic are working with no conflicts (that I have observed).
I am not aware of any other Virus Protection software programs that change "Service" settings or any other PC Optimization programs that change "Service" settings, however, if AAP is not working properly, then check "Services" and see if AAP service startup is set to Manual.
My hope is that Acronis contacts PC Matic and have them update PC Matic so it does not change any Acronis services.

Have not heard of PC Matic until this post but not seen any similar behaviour with regards to Services being turned off by security software.

Most of my systems use Norton and this is not happening. If I get a chance I will fire up a non-Norton system and check.

PC Matic A whitelist based security suite software that includes ransomware protection. Haven't used it myself but does have some good reviews.

I started using PC Matic because of the good reviews and the "White List" concept. The only concern is if a malware/ransomware process gets accidently or inadvertently white listed, then the malware/ransomware could succeed. AP continues to monitor all processes, including white listed processes, for ransomware patterns, and if a pattern is detected, then AP will stop the process.

Interesting find - thanks for passing along - although, I don't use it either. No issues with it and Malwarebytes Pro running malware protection at the same time, although, I did end up opting to stop AAP since I have a decent amount of faith as Malwarebytes and think running both could cause issues down the road. Maybe not, but I'm OK with the current setup as is for the time being.
