Couldnt recover after format with 2018 True image

Thread needs solution

Hi, I m using the acronis from windows only so far. I fresh formatted my pc, installed Acronis True Image and tried to recover. I got few questions here:
- Do i press validate since i just formatted to see my old setup?
- How do i recover?

I pressed Recover after selecting all files in the recovery tab, it prompted me for restart or the recovery would stop. I press restart and after 1-2 screens that is trying to do something, i kept logging at windows without being able to recover anything.
This happened again in the past, so i thought its time to ask. Idk if i should use acronis this way, but i thought its pretty straight forward to go to another point in time even with a fresh formatted pc.

Thanos, welcome to these User Forums.

Please can you provide more information on exactly what you are trying to do here?

What do you mean by "I fresh formatted my pc, installed Acronis True Image and tried to recover."?

Does this mean you did a clean install of Windows then installed ATI but then want to restore a backup of the Windows OS that you had made previously for this same PC?

Or, does this mean, as indicated by your statement: "I pressed Recover after selecting all files in the recovery tab" that you are trying to recover only certain Files & Folders from an earlier backup from this PC?

What type of Backup are you trying to recover from here?
Is this an 'Entire PC', Disks & Partitions, or a Files & Folders backup?
Did this Backup come from the same PC that you are trying to recover to?

What version of Windows OS are you using here? Windows 7, 8.1 or 10?

Hello Steve,

"Does this mean you did a clean install of Windows then installed ATI but then want to restore a backup of the Windows OS that you had made previously for this same PC?"
Yes, same windows though 10 home, so i thought this wouldnt be an issue. From same pc, a full backup.
Any thoughts? Acronis has done this before, without even a format and im thinking of stop paying it cause the rare few times i tried this half of em restore failed.
cheers

The reason i picked acronis over other products is that with 1 button i can backup (and supposedly restore) my entire pc. This fails so far though.

Another thing that happened: After format and installing my windows apps, i did a backup. After installing some more programs, i tried to go this backup to see if i can and the backup seemed empty. It was there on my disc as image but acronis could see it. I dont understand whats going on :)

Thanos, thank you for the further information.

It should not be necessary to take the approach you have been using, i.e. to format and reinstall Windows then do a restore from within Windows.  This is effectively wasting a lot of your time and effort as the first step of any restore operation is to wipe the target disk drive.

The recommended method of doing this type of recovery of the whole OS drive is to create the Acronis bootable Rescue Media and boot from this then perform the recovery completely outside of any running Windows OS or applications.

Any full drive recovery requires that you have previously made either an 'Entire PC' or a Disk & Partitions backup of the source drive with all of its partitions.

If you have Windows 10 running on your PC with ATI 2018 installed, then you should be able to check that your backup image file is good by using Windows Explorer, then double-clicking on the .TIB file which will show you the contents, including what partitions were captured.

If you haven't already created the Rescue Media, then please do this before doing anything else - ideally I would recommend using a USB stick for this.  Any USB stick from 1GB to 32GB maximum size, formatted as FAT32 can be used for the rescue media.

The USB Rescue Media should be booted in the same mode as used by Windows 10, you can check what this is by running the msinfo32 command then look to see what is shown for BIOS Mode in the right-panel.

Thanks. Yes i know i dont have to format, i usually wanna restore to a clean windows verion.

On the other case, the backup file is there on the hard drive, but couldnt load inside acronis application.
I had eg the name of the backup "backup1" but no options to recover or anything. File was in the same path as created. I deleted the file eventually cause was a few gb of space that i couldnt use anymore. If this happens again i ll post here ASAP
