Deleting old backup's on a NAS

Thread needs solution

Hi, I am new to Acronis and am backing up to a NAS. I didn't set a retention rule set and have now filled up the disk. I want to delete my old backups and can see them in Windows (I have mapped the NAS drive). Acronis advise NOT to use Windows Explorer to delete backups but the Delete option is missing from the NAS disc drop down menu in the Backup page of the application. How do I delete the old backups from my NAS disk?

Chris, you can delete the unwanted files on the NAS using Explorer but you should follow this by running a Validation for your backup task in the main ATI GUI.

Look to the right of the task name for the caret (v) icon, click on this and take the validate option shown.  You will see a pop up error message for each deleted file for which you should take the ignore option if offered (else cancel), this will then help reconcile the information held by ATI in its internal database for your backup tasks and files.

You should then set retention values in the Automatic Cleanup section for your task.
