Deleting older full and diffetential files after new full backup created

Thread needs solution

I have created a differential backup scheme that creates a full backup after 5 differential backups have been created.

So the structure is:

Full backup: original
Differential #1
Differential #2
Differential #3
Differential #4
Differential #5
Full backup: new

The problem is that my disk is no full and I since I don't need the original full back up and Differential files, how can I delete just them and retain the newest full backup?

I am using Acronis 2018. Thank you.

Wallace, welcome to these public User Forums.

The recommended method for managing unwanted backup files is to use the automatic cleanup rules found on the Backup scheme settings page of each backup task.

The issue for you is if your disk is already full, then the automatic cleanup setting that would have helped would be "Store no more than 1 recent version chain" which would have caused your oldest backup chain with 1 x Full and 5 x Diff files to be deleted after your new Full backup was created successfully.

Given your disk is full, then you would need to turn off Acronis Active Protection (if running) then delete the oldest files using Explorer, but you would also then need to perform a Validation for this backup task and take the Ignore option for the pop-up messages that will be given, one for each deleted file.  Validation is needed to reconcile the information held in the Acronis database that tracks the files created by your backup tasks.

Ideally, I would recommend investing in a larger backup drive or else switching to using an Incremental backup task which would create smaller interim backup files than differential does.
