All was well when I cloned disks in Acronis 16 but after upgrade to 18 the disk can't be recognized in windows explorer or Computer in start menu. They are present in Acronis and Disc Management (ONLINE) and it will boot when fitted in my comp.

Newly cloned disk is in usb caddy when above happens.

widows 7  all drives are SSD's

HELP!!!

Thank you for opening this new topic rather than adding to the end of a much older one in the ATI 2016 forum.

When you are creating a clone of an active disk drive with ATI 2018, you are creating an identical duplicate of that drive on the second disk in your USB caddy, where this will also have a duplicate disk signature as the active drive.

What I suspect you are seeing is that the second, cloned disk is not being given one or more drive letters by Acronis at the end of the clone process, this to avoid causing any issues with your active Windows OS.

If you were to disconnect / eject / do a safe stop of the USB caddy & drive then reconnect it again to the computer, then I would expect that Windows would allocate drive letter(s) to the SSD but you would then risk that a disk signature clash could occur and that Windows would change the disk signature on one of the two drives.  This could then cause other problems such as failed activation of any applications which look for a specific disk signature to verify correct / legal activation.

If the cloned drive works correctly when installed in your computer (after removing the original disk) then the clone action is working correctly.

I've found the problem and fixed.

I went into Disc Management then highlighted the drive  clicked on "Make Active" low and behold I could see and access all my files. Please note Mr Acronis this never happened in Acronis 16.

Please see my previous update - there is a valid reason for not making a cloned drive active on the same system where it was created from.
