Dissimilar hardware: How do you get drivers off of an HP Windows-7 Pro installation CD?

Thread needs solution

I want to use Acronis 18 to migrate from a Gateway Profile 6.5 AIO to an HP 8000.

The Gateway runs under Windows-7 Pro

The HP will run under Windows-7 Pro.

Acronis 18 says to prepare and have the Drivers for the destination PC available.

Great!

They must be on the HP Windows-7 Pro installation CD.

If they are, will Acronis 18 just ask me to insert the CD and then proceed to find what it needs?

If not, in preparation, how do I identify them on the HP Windows-7 Pro installation CD?

If I install HP Windows-7 Pro on the 8000 first, will Acronis 18 just restore without needing drivers?

Also

Can / will the Cloning Application run under Windows-7 while the PC is running 'other' Applications?

Example:

I am cloning our POS Server which runs under Windows-7.

Can we continue to use the POS Server while the cloning process is also running?

OR

Must the clone be run under Windows while everything else is shut down??

Mike,

Your main concerns for drivers are for the hardware not for Windows.  Installing Windows 7 on the HP will not do anything for you when it comes to drivers as Windows uses a generic driver set for hardware.  Because of this some hardware will not work because of a lack of dedicated drivers.

The most troublesome when dealing with dissimilar hardware are the motherboard Chipset drivers and the Storage Controller drivers.  To get these drivers you must download them from the manufacturer website for the target machine.  You would then extract the drivers from the downloaded files if necessary (they usually do need to be extracted), place the extracted files on a flash drive for access by Universal Restore, then run through the True Image Restore and then the Universal Restore processes.

I am providing link to the drivers support page at HP for you that I think is the correct page based on the information you  have provided.  Please insure it is correct before downloading drivers here.  I would suggest downloading all the available hardware drivers for the HP 8000 so that you have them available as devices such as Graphics and Network drivers will need to be installed after you have the restored OS up and running on HP machine.

Link for the HP 8000 driver support page is HERE

Thank you. I will give it a try.

Best regards,

I now want to buy Acronis 2018.

When I buy it, I'd assume that it downloads onto my Gateway.

Once it's there and I run the Backup, how do I get it to the HP?

Mike,

You will need to create Recovery Media and Universal Restore Media to perform the tasks.  I am attaching the user guide and the EULA here for your convenience.  You will need to give the user guide a good read through to get an understanding of the processes involved.  I would recommend that you do that prior to purchase.

If you have additional questions you can post them here in the Forum and another user or MVP will respond.
