Does Clone Disk make ANY changes to Source Disk?

Thread needs solution

I already used this software to upgrade my laptop to an SSD.  And now I have this identically sized, fully compatible hard drive . . .   I was thinking I could periodically use this same software to clone my SSD back to the original for easy swapping in in case of catastrophic failure.  But when I run the software, I note that on the Before/After summary it suggests that the price letters will be changed to C, etc on the target drive.  That made me worry that there might be an unintended consequence to the source drive if I clone it with this software.  Does anyone know?

THANKS!

David, welcome to these public User Forums.

Technically, there should be no reason for the source drive to be changed when performing a clone but the core purpose of using clone is not to be an alternative to making a backup, as it is intended that the source drive would be replaced by the cloned target drive when the clone process has finished, which could result in changes to the BIOS to reflect that drive now being the boot drive.

There can sometimes be changes to the target drive when cloning due to the type of adapter used to connect that drive.  This is one reason why the recommendation would normally be to install the new drive in place of the source drive then connect that drive externally while booting from the Acronis Rescue Media to perform the clone.
