Error when copying backup files to another drive

Thread needs solution

I just upgraded to 2018. I use FreeFileSync on Windows 10 to copy files, including Acronis backups, to another drive. Since upgrading to 2018 I get an Acronis error dialog  when FreeFileSync tries to copy a backup file asking if I want to block the action or allow it for one hour. How can I disable this feature?

Bazsl, when you are copying / accessing Acronis backup files, these are now protected by the Acronis Active Protection (AAP) component which is enabled by default in all editions of ATIH 2018.

This is correct behaviour to prevent your backups from being attacked by ransomware or other malware type infections.

If you do not want this protection, then you can either use the option to allow it for one hour or else otherwise you would need to right-click on the AAP icon in the bottom system tray and turn off this protection.  If you want to disable AAP completely then you will need to open the main Services.msc console and change the AAP service to be disabled as well.

You could also whitelist FreeFileSync in Active Protection which should allow things to work as they have in the past.

How? Is there any documentation that explains how to whitelist a program? I have not been able to find any documentation at all so a reference would be welcome. Thanks.

It is more complicated than it needs to be (and more complicated than in ATI 2017 NG). You open ATI 2018, select Active Protection, then click on Manage Processes (below the number for Suspicious), and use the Add button to add to the permissions list.

Glad that you were able to sort it out. Took me a while to work it out and then to remember how to do it.
