Failed to read from sector xxx of HD 1 (SanDisk SSD) during backup

Thread needs solution

I have a SanDisk 960 GB SSD that has been good to me for several years.   SanDisk Dashboard shows that it is in good shape with no file errors.   It has been successfully backed up before by True Image 2015.   Last two backups I have gotten the subject error.   I have run chkdsk and it shows no file errors.  SMART Test is good.  So no errors found to fix.   Upgraded to TI 2018 to hope the later better software would work.

No success.  Same error.

Any thoughts?

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool and use this to look at the messages posted in the logs for your backup task where this error is being reported.

CHKDSK can only operate on partitions with an allocated drive letter, i.e. C: but you will have at least 1 or more hidden/system partitions without a drive letter where sector errors can be encountered during a backup of the whole drive.  You would need to allocate a temporary drive letter to such hidden partitions in order to run CHKDSK across all areas of the drive.

I fully agree with Steve's advice. I had a similar issue some time back and it was one of the hidden partitions that had the error. My recollection is that it was the UEFI partition. I used the recovery media created with MVP Custom WinPe Builder which assigns drive letters to the hidden partitions making the process very easy.
