Full backup instead of incremental backup

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 2018, Build 9660.
My system: Windows 10, 64 bit; four hard disks with multiple partitions.
One of these is for data backup only.
I have now created a custom incremental backup to do weekly at a specific time.
The first time ATI has now correctly created a full backup of all partitions of the first three hard drives and saved them to the fourth hard disk, about 1.7 TB.
The first incremental backup should now take place after one week.
Here I found, after the backup after more than an hour was not finished, that ATI now again wanted to create a complete backup.
I then canceled it.
What could be the error?
Thank you for your support

Uwe Jensen...welcome to these user forums.

I recommend downloading the log viewer and look at the ti_demon logs for the full and incremental backups.  Here's the link:

Some questions:

For your custom backup, did you select "Entire PC" or did you select "Disks & Partitions"?

How did you determine that the second backup, which should be incremental, was a full backup?  Were you basing your conclusion on the length of time or did you look at the file name?  The ti_demon log file will show the names of the .tib files being created.  Also, there are certain factors which could cause an incremental backup to run for a long time.

Based on your answers, I will provide further analysis.  I am confident we can find the problem.

We've had the same issue with multiple different backups. They seem to forget the rules and try a complete backup instead of incremental. So frustrating!

Ken, sorry but too little information here to be able to advise you on why your are seeing a problem as you describe.

Please see the previous post and download the MVP Log Viewer and see if this will shed any light on why your backups are not behaving as expected?

We have multiple backup sets each set to incremental.

After a while (seemingly not determined by time or how many backup sets have occurred) a backup will somehow change to full and not be able to complete because the destination drive doesn't have enough storage for multiple full backups.

This happened to different sets even though all the rules are the same.

We had five different backups. Once this occurred there was no way to get around it so I would delete it and start fresh on all the settings - and think we'd be good to go. It would then happen to a different backup set.

(PS you can determine it was a full backup attempt because when you cancel is says full backup in the activity)

Ken, can you either post the logs for the backup that should have done an incremental but did a full backup, or else can you post an Acronis System Report zip file which would include those logs, so that we can take a look at what is happening?

Yes, we need the logs for more info. An incremental can change to a full format things like the version chain being met and starting over. Or, if you change the backup config enough, such as the name or # of backups in the chain to keep, that could force a new full.

I no longer have True Image installed.

I did give the full system report to customer service before I uninstalled it.

I've been trying other options and much prefer the True Image UI and system over everything else - but I can't rely on it with such important files.

Masood Ahmed has the logs if you want to look into it further. If you find a solution let me know and I''d be happy to come back.

Ken, sorry but without further data to work with, we will have to leave this issue with Acronis to investigate with your logs / system report.  We have no access to such information held by the Acronis customer service team (as are only users ourselves, not Acronis staff etc).
